Bockmattli ***
The rock on the north side lacks friction and can take some getting used to. The west side is another story: On the upper part of the “Himmelskante“, you will find fantastic climbing on coarse grippy rock. In the history of alpine sport climbing, Martin Scheel’s and Gregor Benisowitsch’s 1980 FA of “Supertramp“ (without a bolt kit) was a milestone climbing achievement. Even today, this stands out as a serious undertaking. In the meantime, the route was retro-bolted and then subsequently chopped out of ethical concerns by traditionalists. It requires a mastery of gear placement skills. The descent down Grossen Bockmattli Tower requires alpine experience and should not be underestimated. The climbing is best during hot summer days.
