Charmey ****

The biggest and most well known crag low down in Canton Freiburg. Pirmin Bertle’s difficult first ascents draw high end climbers from near and far into the Jaun Valley. Even for climbers with more modest abilities, “Tribune” does offer 6a to 7c climbs, though the rock is not always the most solid here. Some of the holds had to be glued back on or somewhat “modified”. The 7c and up routes are much better and these are the “go to” routes here! The best time to climb at Charney is from November til March. In the spring, the routes can stay wet for a long time. Beware: Danger of Rockfall exists on the approach as well as at the base of the right side of the wall. Directly under the wall at the belay, you are fine. Nevertheless, a helmet is recommended, especially on the approach.
