Elsigen ****
Elsigen climbing history began with Jurg von Kanel’s “Halifax” on the Barenturm (Bear Tower) in 1983. In those days the route was the area’s testpiece. After 1985, Hannes Grossen got busy and put up the Elsigen classic “Mobile”. These days, the 750m wide wall sports more than 125 routes in the finest limestone. The “Mayor of Elsigen”, Grossen continues to ferret out new lines and maintains the old classics up to date. The most beautiful views down into the Frutig Valley, child friendly landings, and well protected lines….what more can you ask for? Summertime climbing will be comfortable until about 1pm. The cooler Fall temps yield fun climbing until sundown.
