Once you have finally made it to the top of the frightfully steep “Brüeltobel” you are soon rewarded with the first Berggasthaus (Mountain Hostel) and great views to the valley below with its lush alpine meadows. This idyllic hiking region sits near Fählensee at the base of the Widderalpstöck. The whole area has benefitted greatly from a region-wide retrofitting program. Safe and well protected routes have been the result and this has reawakened interest for climbing here. The rock quality is consistently excellent, and the many pines are hardly a concern except when you rappel (risk of rope snag). Because of the long approach, an extended stay is so worth it with nice accommodation options.
