Pilatus ***
Pilatus isn’t merely known as a Sunday getaway destination with the world’s steepest cogwheel train, Pilatus is for climbers, too. The traverse of the Galtigen towers is an unforgettable experience for young and old alike. Without overwhelming committment, descent is always possible between each tower. Water runnel featured limestone is typical on the Mattalpplatte. Perfect coarse rock with alpine panoramic views can be found on the Matthorn and “Eselei” Sector. Holzwangfluh offers longer and more challenging routes. On the warmer days, check out the routes on the upper Galtigen Tower. Pilatus Kulm and Ämsigen (stop upon request) make great starting points. Considerably less expensive, yet longer, is the approach from Lütoldsmatt.
