Les Chéserys ****

A pleasant trail with Mont Blanc panoramic views leads from the parking lot to these compact and well featured gneiss slabs. These are inspiring routes with fantastic climbing all with excellent protection. After you pass the reddish brown gneiss slabs, you stand in front of Aiguillette d’ Argentiere. This is where Gaston Rebuffat entered the history books with his 1941 ascent on the “Voi de Droite”. For it was here that he was famously photograghed making his signature move up the unprotected off width without chalk and in hob nail boots! Even more amazing, he sent the entire wide crack with his pipe firmly gritted in his teeth keeping it lit all the way to the top!
