Steingletscher am Sustenpass

The guidebook reveals the numerous outdoor options available in the Steingletscher area on Susten Pass. The "Stei" has long been considered a popular rock climbing Mecca. This is certainly largely due to the abundance of route choices in the casual grades (3-5a) and bomber protection. Kids and beginners alike love it and it is here where many have their first experiences "on the rock". Meanwhile, there is also plenty for the hardcore who are ready and willing for routes up to 7c+! Beta for the Via Ferrata up to the Tierbergli Hut is also included. Boulderers can expect an endless supply of quality Susten gneis boulders just above the Hotel and the flood plane! The area offers awesome hikes. 6 beautiful loop hikes are described in detail (maps), each with a different length, difficulty, and character. They lead you through idyllic mountain lake scenery, over narrow ridge crests, or to a cup of coffee and a piece of cake via the Guferjoch in the Sustli Hut. Besides offering info on the long popular and well known ski tours and mountaineering routes on the Sustenhorn or Gwachtenhorn, we reveal a few "secret stashes" as well. The routes are described both in text and topos and further clarified with overview maps and overlay photos. The steepness, sun exposure, and climbing time details are aloso provided. For those who want to travel in this impressive alpine landscape, yet lack the skiing prowess, two day glacier hikes from the Tierbergli Hut to the Chelenalp Hut are strongly recommended.
