Simmenfluh ***
Winds usually blast through this narrow gorge and incessant road noise emphasizes the desolation of the landscape. The small passage between the Simmen and Burgfluh separates the Simmen Valley from the rest of the world. On the plus side: technically challenging 40m routes which dry quickly after rainfall, a 10 minute approach, and easy access with public transportation. Super popular back in the 90’s, the Simmenfluh slipped into oblivion. This was mostly due to quarry operations at the base of the wall. The routes got longer, but not necessarily better. Then in 2015, Pesche Wuthrich decided to take on the enormous task of rebolting, reworking, and rerouting many of the climbs. He even designed and built nice landings as well as a little Via Ferrata. The original grades and ratings have changed, and concensus is a bit in limbo. Climbing at the area is permitted, but know you are entering at your own risk.
